Hello, friends! Hope your week is going swimmingly. As I write this, I am sitting in my journalism class, watching clips of different reporters and journalists that my prof has chosen to showcase the different types of writing and reporting. Interestingly enough, he keeps mentioning that blogs have become a common source of news for bigger news publishers. Not saying BLOGGERS ARE THE BEST or anything… but bloggers might be the best. Just a little shameless self-promotion for your Tuesday evening, haha! For real though, one of the reasons I love blogging is being able to share timeless, conscious fashion with you all, like the Sparkle Necklace from Chic Made Consciously that you see pictured here. Eco fashion and fair fashion is something I just love to talk about, wear and share, so I was of course down to share this item with you. This necklace is fairly made in Bali using recycled inner tubes! Full disclosure, Chic Made Consciously gifted this to me in exchange for some photos and a review. (PS head to my Instagram (@thehonestroot) for a chance to WIN this necklace!)
“Add this classic piece to your everyday wardrobe. It is handmade and upcycled from tire inner tubes. Its timeless design and elegance will dress up any office attire, evening dress or simply add essence to your outfit.”
– Chic Made Consciously
I have to agree with the above quote – the design if the Sparkle Necklace is quite timeless and can easily be dressed up or down. I would 100% wear this to a fancy dinner out with my girlfriends or on a date, and would also totally wear it as a funky accessory to a live music show or new brunch spot. Something that’s so important in slow and eco fashion is filling your wardrobe with items that don’t age quickly and can be paired with more than one or two outfits. Because the pattern on this piece is not easily attributed to a particular time in fashion history, it can carry you through many years of trends and personal style shifts.
By the way, the top I’m wearing with this necklace is second hand. Originally from H&M, I found it for dirt cheap and in near perfect condition at a consignment store in Chilliwack, BC. Hooray for slow fashion!
One of my favourite things about this necklace besides it being a totally eco fashion piece with beautiful design, is that it is SUPER light weight. In photos it almost looks heavy but it is shockingly easy to wear and is literally almost weightless. How this is possible is beyond me, but here we are! I am really prone to headaches, as I’ve mentioned many times on this blog, and so having accessories that don’t pull on my neck is imperative.
Instead of mass producing products made with planned obsolescence, Chic Made Consciously spreads the message of slow fashion by offering accessories that are upcycled and designed to last.
“We work in collaboration with local artisans in Bali who are the makers of each handcrafted item we sell. These items are fair trade, meaning there is no child labour, the artisans work in safe working conditions and we agree to pay the artisans the wages they set themselves.”
